Described by critics as “highly elegant and musical” (Scherzo, 2026), Laura Ballestrino is a Spanish pianist and composer born in Madrid, 2000. A member of Yamaha’s Young Talents Programme, she began playing the piano at the age of 5 and made her debut with orchestra at the age of 15. Since then, she has cultivated her career as a distinguished concert pianist, performing in prestigious venues in Europe and North America. She has been a grant holder of the scholarships La Caixa Foundation and Yamaha Music Europe Foundation.

Laura has achieved national and international success receiving prizes at prestigious piano competitions such as the 3rd Prize at Concurso Internacional de Piano Compositores de España (“CIPCE”, member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions), 1st Prize Jeunesses Musicales Spain, 1st Prize International Piano Competition Antón García Abril, 1st Prize International Piano Competition Gran Klavier, 1st Prize International Piano Competition María Herrero, 1st Prize National Piano Competition Ciudad de Albacete, special prizes at Intercentros Melómano competition and Ibiza International Piano Competition. She was recently a semifinalist of the 67th International Piano Competition Premio Jaén (2026).

Her international career has led her to perform abroad in venues such as Solitär of Universität Mozarteum (Salzburg), Kreeger Museum (Washington D. C.), and the Ferst Center for the Arts (Atlanta), among others. At the age of 22, Laura was invited by the Spanish Embassy in Washington D.C. to take part in the Spanish Young Music Talents program. Her residency as a guest artist at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta featured piano masterclasses and lectures for the university students, as well as piano recitals and performances with the GT Symphony Orchestra.

Beyond the standard repertoire, she performs a variety of Spanish music and contemporary music, having performed numerous premieres. Besides, her interest in chamber music has led her to explore a wide repertoire for a variety of ensembles including string and wind ensembles. She is currently a member of the Ballestrino-Rúmenov piano duo, with which she will make her debut at the Teatro de la Maestranza in February 2027.

A highlight of her discography is her interpretation of Dos Piezas Griegas (2024) by Spanish composer Antón García Abril, being the first recording of the work available on digital platforms, and released by the label Novus Promusica in collaboration with Yamaha. Currently, she is preparing her debut album with the label Adora New Music with repertoire by Chopin and Schumann, to be released in fall 2026.

As a self-taught composer, her music explores the intersection between jazz language, improvisation and the classical tradition. Her LP Borealis (2025) features a collection of original works for piano and has reached over 50.000 streams on Spotify, released by Novus Promusica.

In parallel, she composes orchestral soundtracks for audiovisual media such as film and video games. She stands out as the composer and producer of the Original Soundtrack for the fantasy RPG video game Archaelund, which she creates entirely in her home studio.

She also creates music for multidisciplinary artistic projects with contemporary ballet. In December 2025, she premiered her original composition Suite Borealis for solo piano and contemporary dance at the Spanish Cultural Center in Washington D.C, in collaboration with the Washington-based company Company E.
